Bicycle hire offers visitors to Cartagena a lot more freedom to explore the city and surrounding areas. With so much to see and do in the city, car hire for most is not essential. However, for as little as 5€ you can hire a bike for a couple of hours and venture further afield. This is especially the case if you're a big fan of spending lazy days on the beach. With the port and marinas taking up most of the bay, the closest noteworthy beach lies a couple of kilometres from the city centre. This is a bit of a long walk for most, so arranging bicycle hire when you arrive is a great idea.
Bicycle Hire In Cartagena
For the size of the city it's surprising there are no actual bicycle hire companies, and if there are they certainly don't advertise. It could be the fact that the bicycle sales and repair companies in the city do hire bikes but they have not advertised the fact. However, depending on how long your visit is, it can work out cheaper to browse the local Facebook buy & sell groups and purchase a bike as they go for as little as 40€. You can always sell it on or donate it when you leave. Some of the city hotels offer bike hire, and there are a couple of surrounding towns that will deliver bikes.
La Manga Bikes
La Manga lies around 40 minutes drive from Cartagena and is a popular resort area where water sports and activities feature highly. La Manga Bikes is a well established company located along the ‘strip' just off Av. Gran Via de la Manga. They offer an excellent range of bicycles and bike accessories for hire. These include city, mountain, mountain pro, road, road pro and tandem bikes. Accessories include Garmin GPS, child seats, child and pet trailers, helmets, puncture kits and padlocks. Rates are reasonable and range from 2 hours to a full month. They do not mention a delivery and collection service, but they may offer this for a fee, depending on the distance.
Costa Blanca Bike Hire
These guys have been established since 2005 and do offer a delivery and collection service. Their bike shop is located on Calle San Francisco De Asis in the lively Mar Menor town of San Pedro del Pinatar. Their range of bicycle hire is extensive and includes kids bikes, trikes and serious race training bikes. With the coastal terrain and many hiking and cycling trails around Cartagena, it's best to opt for a mountain bike. If you are sticking to the roads and promenades, a city bike will be all you need. So, on your next visit to Cartagena why not consider bicycle hire to get around.
