Scuba Diving Courses
Scuba diving courses can be undertaken at several dive centres in Cartagena. Within a short drive from the city centre are further dive centres to choose from. All of these dive centres we have listed in a separate article titled Scuba Diving. One thing you will find they all have in common is training facilities. Although most will offer dive trips for qualified and experienced divers, scuba diving courses are their bread and butter. These range from fun kids courses like Bubble Maker and Scuba Ranger, to the most popular course Open Water Diver, and above such as Dive Master.
Discover Scuba Diving
Although the underwater world is truly fascinating, scuba diving is not for everyone. Even the most daring thrill seeker has been known to fall at the first hurdle, breathing under water. Due to this it's advisable to ‘try before you buy' on a Discover Scuba Diving day. Don't get us wrong, this is not free but a lot less expensive than paying for a course only to discover scuba diving is not for you. Discover Scuba Diving is offered by practically every dive centre, and for most is super fun. The duration is usually a few hours and includes instructions and a pool or shallow shore dive.
Kids Scuba Diving Courses
Kids scuba diving courses not only provide endless fun, but also a handy introduction to diving. Children as young a 8 years can join a course, and for those younger many dive centres offer fun Snorkel Safaris. Courses can go by several quirky names, although Bubblemaker seems to be the most popular. These are usually around 2-3 hours and start with an introduction to safety. This is followed by an introduction to the equipment, technique and team diving in a swimming pool. A step up from this and even more fun are diving courses such as Scuba Ranger and Seal team.
Adult Scuba Diving Courses
We use the word adult lightly here, as the most popular of all scuba diving courses around the world, PADI Open Water Diver, is available to persons as young as 12 years. Although there are several dive organisations and accrediting boards, PADI is the most recognised worldwide. The open water diver course, advanced courses and speciality courses all combine theoretical study and practical instruction. The open water diver course usually takes 3-4 days and participants need to be able to swim, be in good health and reasonably fit. After this is completed successfully keen divers can go on to do Advanced Open Water Diver, speciality courses and Dive Master.
Speciality Scuba Diving Courses
There are numerous speciality courses one can achieve. Indeed, to rate for Master Scuba Diver you will need to complete 5 speciality courses beforehand. Having completed an open water diver course some consider scuba diving as a career. The majority wishing to do this will strive for an Instructor Course. However, depending on where you plan to dive as a career, you may find a niche in the market for certain speciality divers. These can include Search and Recovery Diver, Boat Diver, Deep Diver, Night Diver, Enriched Air Diver, Equipment Specialist and Fish ID Diver. There are many more speciality diving courses, most of which you can undertake in Cartagena.
