Activities

Activities in Cartagena, both land and water based can be enjoyed by all ages during a holiday in this bustling, vibrant city. Many of us have such a demanding home or work life we find little time to expend whatever energy we have left on activities. Heading off on a vacation though, gives us time to recharge out batteries and use our newfound energy to get out and about and enjoy our surroundings. Cartagena and its surrounding coastline and countryside offers all sorts of fun and exiting activities. Some activities can be rather expensive, and others totally free.

City Activities

One such activity that won't cost you more than a small chunk of meat is crabbing. This is super fun for the young ones and can keep them amused for hours. It's also an activity that can be done anywhere rocks meet the sea. Craggy coves, rock pools, piers, jetties and harbour walls are all potential spots where crabs like to hide. Sports clubs offer a good variety of activities and the chance to burn off those excess holiday calories. These can be enjoyed both indoors and out. On the outskirts of the city is Tentegorra Aventura. This is a great place to spend the day with family where you will find swimming pools, a labyrinth maze, laser wars and multi-adventure circuits.

Surrounding Activities

Golf is one of the most popular activities to enjoy during a holiday in Cartagena. For the ultimate in sports and leisure, including 4 golf courses, you can't beat the amazing La Manga Club. Further along the shores of the Mar Menor lagoon is La Serena Golf and another 4 courses in the popular area of Orihuela Costa. For a bit more of an adrenaline rush, Formula Karts Cartagena offers various engine capacity karts as well as pit bikes and mini-motos. Those who prefer the clip clop of horses hooves will find several surrounding riding schools that offer a variety of treks. Or why not enjoy fresh air and exercise on numerous city and countryside hiking trails.

Water Activities

Being a coastal city, water activities in and around Cartagena are plentiful. There are numerous spectacular scuba diving sites in the surrounding waters. These include the pristine flora & fauna of the the Cabo de Palos, Isla Hormigas Marine Reserve, island dives, sheer cliffs, caves and ship wrecks. Cartagena has two dive centres located within the port. Several more dive centres can be found in La Manga and along the shores of the Mar Menor. These offer recreational dives for qualified divers. They also offer a full range of PADI certified diving courses and fun kids courses.

For those on a limited budget, snorkelling can be enjoyed along the entire Costa Calida coastline. Some dive centres and adventure tour operators will also offer Snorkel Safaris which are great fun for all the family. Thrill seekers can bomb about on jet skis for a bit of a hefty price, or try the crazy activity of flyboarding. Heading inland, visitors of all ages can enjoy gentle white water rafting down the River Segura. For those with plenty money to spend, or a large group sharing the cost, boat charters can be hired for a variety of activities including deep sea fishing. You can also pilot your own Quasar Yamaha 13LX with a capacity for 4 persons with self drive boat hire.
