Alicante-Elche Airport

Alicante-Elche Airport lies about 120 kilometres northeast of Cartagena and can be reached by car in around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Murcia-San Javier Airport is a lot closer although, being the smaller airport, it services less airlines and may not be suitable for some visitors. Travelling to and from Alicante-Elche Airport is relatively simple via the AP-7 motorway or A-7 national road. First time visitors and passengers will find the airport buildings spacious, bright and modern. There is a good range of services, facilities, private and public transport, shops and restaurants.

Alicante-Elche Airport Services

Within the terminal buildings are a number of public and passenger services. Throughout the terminals are ample seating areas and clean, modern ablutions. These include ablutions for those with reduced mobility, baby changing and lactation rooms. At the information desks you can enquire about left luggage and lost property. Here you can also enquire about assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. This service must be requested at least 48 hours in advance. Currency exchange, ATM machines, free WiFi and a baggage wrapping service is also available.

Alicante-Elche Airport Facilities

Bars & Restaurants – There are a number of bars and restaurants at Alicante-Elche Airport. These are located in both the public and passenger only zones. They include bars, cafes, coffee shops, popular takeaways and sit down restaurants. The majority are in the passenger only zone.

Shops & Duty Free – Again, a number of shops are found in both the public and passenger only zones. These include foodstuffs, fashion & accessories, sports, toys, gift ideas, newsagents, and a pharmacy. Just outside the terminal is a tobacconist. Duty Free is in the passenger only zone.

The lounge and its facilities are free to use for business class ticket holders and club card holders from associated airlines. All other passengers can use the lounge and its facilities when paying with a card at the reception desk.

Transport & Car Parking

Car Hire – Passengers arriving at Alicante-Elche Airport have a good choice of vehicle rental. These include national and international car hire companies such as Hertz, Avis, Sixt, Record Go, Europcar, Goldcar and Centauro. Each of these have representatives within the terminal and offer car hire upon arrival. During the busy summer months it's highly advisable to book well in advance though. Should you wish to use an independent hire company you should choose wisely. Cartagena Insider recommend using the services of the well established Coys Rent-A-Car.

Taxis – The official taxi service for Alicante-Elche Airport is Radio Taxi Elche. Passengers are welcome to use the services of their chosen taxi company. However, by using the official taxis it is safer, and easier to trace any left luggage or other belongings that may have been forgotten in the vehicle. Be discreet if using a private ‘airport pick up' as taxi drivers take offence to this.

Buses – Local buses run from Alicante-Elche Airport terminal to several nearby destinations. These include Alicante City and the wonderful green city of Elche. Visitors to Cartagena will be pleased to know there is also a Cartagena bus. Other destinations include the party capital of Benidorm, Calpe, Murcia, Santa Pola, San Vincente del Raspeig and Torrevieja.

Parking – The general car park P1 is just a few metres from the terminal building. There is also a long stay car park, first class car park and express car park. General parking rates are reasonable.

Cartagena Cruise Ship Port

Cartagena cruise ship port is a recent addition when you consider the city's cargo port has been a place of commercial trading for over 2,000 years.
